A single solid black stripe runs the entire length of the aircraft, from just behind the nose down to the tail. Nothing else on the page is filled in.

It works because it gives the eye a line to follow through what would otherwise be an unbroken field of pattern. Cover it up and the drawing becomes much harder to read, which is a useful thing to notice before deciding what to do with it.

Follow the flow lines rather than the aircraft parts. If a scallop field runs from the wing onto the fuselage, color it as one shape. Breaking it at the panel edge fights the whole point of the drawing.

A tight palette works better here than a wide one, and a gradient works best of all: cool tones at the nose warming toward the engines, or the reverse. The curved bands are built for it, because each one steps naturally into the next.

The engine nozzles are the only mechanical detail left visible, and giving them a metallic gray while everything else stays colored keeps the jet identifiable as a jet.
