The flower came back with a smiling face in the centre, which is what makes a botanical subject work for a preschooler.

We kept the drawing exactly as it came out. The little skull at the foot of the stem was part of the request and it stays small on purpose: this page is about the flower.

About this marigold coloring page

The bloom is built from four rings of rounded petals wound around a small smiling centre, and it fills the top half of the page on its own. Each petal is a closed shape big enough for a crayon, which is unusual for a flower this layered.

The stem runs straight down the middle with one broad leaf angled off it, and that vertical line is what holds the page together. Without it the bloom would float.

Coloring Ideas and Techniques
