Details of this fire truck coloring page

The badge on the grille is the best thing on this page. It is a Maltese cross, the real symbol fire departments use, with a flame drawn inside it, and it sits dead center where a child cannot miss it. It is also the only shape on the sheet with a shape worth explaining out loud.

The firefighter is drawn from the chest up through the windshield, both hands on the wheel, with a helmet that has its own badge on the front. Having a person in the cab is unusual in this collection and it changes what the page is about: this is somebody doing a job, not just a machine.

Around them the details are all real equipment. A ladder with visible rungs lies along the roof rails, two smaller beacons flank the main one, a hose is coiled in a neat spiral on the front deck, and the bumper carries two round lamps with a step plate between them.

The cab glass runs almost the full width above the deck with shine lines across the top corner, a wide mirror stands out on an arm at each side, and two windshield wipers cross the lower edge of the glass just above the badge.
