The swirls came back with the drawing. They do real work here, filling the corners so a page with two thin figures does not read as mostly white.

This day of the dead coloring page features

Both skeletons are drawn round rather than bony: big eye sockets, small triangle noses and wide smiles. He wears a zigzag banded sombrero, a bow tie and shoes with a small heel; she wears a ruffled skirt with a flower at the waist and a blossom behind one ear.

Her arms are thrown wide and one leg kicks out behind, which is where all the movement in the drawing comes from. His feet are planted and slightly turned, so the pair reads as balanced rather than falling.

Around them, six open flowers and a dozen curling swirls fill the background at different sizes, thickest in the corners and thinnest near the figures.
