Sunflowers are the one large bloom that does not appear anywhere else in this collection, which is why they were worth a page of their own.

The headband under the flowers was the generator's addition. It separates the crown from the face cleanly, and without it the two halves of the drawing run together.

The three sunflowers sit shoulder to shoulder, the middle one largest, each built from a cross hatched seed head ringed by fourteen or fifteen pointed petals with leaves behind.

The headband below them is drawn as a plain double line running from temple to temple, the only unpatterned surface on the whole page.

The eye sockets are wheels of petals around a dotted hub, and a heart with a curl on each side forms the nose.

The cheeks fill with paired scrolls that curl outward, and the forehead carries a symmetrical crest of teardrops beneath the band.

The teeth run in a long row of narrow rectangles with a scalloped line above, and a band of small repeated shapes finishes the jaw.

Coloring Ideas and Techniques

Seed heads are the best part of a sunflower to colour. Fill the cross hatching with a dark brown and leave the tiny gaps white, and the texture appears on its own.

Petals want two yellows, the outer half lighter than the inner. On a flower this size a single flat yellow looks like paper.

Colour the headband a solid dark tone. It is the only plain shape available and it gives the eye a place to rest between the flowers and the face.

Leave the skull white and colour only the scrolls on the cheeks, lightly. Three sunflowers is already a lot of yellow.

The leaves behind the blooms should stay a muted green. A bright green next to bright yellow flattens both.

If a child is colouring this, give them the three flowers and take the face yourself. It splits the work fairly and the flowers are the enjoyable part.

Print on Letter or A4 at 100 percent so the seed head texture survives. Reduced to fit, the cross hatching turns into a grey smudge.
